There are many misconceptions about what high school is really like. I took a survey of ninth graders at the end of their freshman year, and one of the main questions I asked them was to describe what they thought would happen versus what actually happened. All of these misconceptions come directly from freshmen who experienced the fear of what high school would be like.
First of all, high school in real life is nothing like it is in the movies. Chances are that in movies, the "high school students" are actually twenty something actors portraying sixteen year olds. It gives us an unrealistic expectation of what everyone looks and acts like, so don't get caught up in how school is in movies.
Another misconception is that high school would either be super hard or super easy. The level of difficulty depends on each student and what types of classes they are taking, but I wouldn't go into high school with set expectations of how hard the classes will be because it's probably totally different than how classes will actually be.
The most popular misconception that I found among the ninth graders was that high school and grade school weren't that different. Especially if you go to grade school and high school with the same group of people, it can seem very similar. However, the expectations you will be faced with and the amount of work you have to do will substantially increase when you get to high school, so don't think that nothing will change just because you're with the same group of people.
